Stay calm and use caution as you quickly make your way to the nearest exit. Be aware that the safest exit may not be the same way you normally enter and exit the building. Be aware of your surroundings as you evacuate, and watch for other dangers and hazards. Avoid using elevators. Assist others who may have impaired mobility. If you or another building occupant need additional assistance, move to a nearby stairwell and contact a nearby responder.

Once you evacuate, move a safe distance from the building. Do not block roads or drives. Emergency vehicles will be responding and need to reach the building quickly. Report any injuries or information about remaining occupants to responders on the scene. At times, the alarm may be deactivated while fire personnel continue to check for hazards. Do not attempt to reenter the building until the fire department has given permission. If you have an emergency, call 911. If you have questions about your building's emergency procedures, contact environmental health and safety at 662-325-3294, or emergency management at 662-325-4521.
